that has been “wet”, even if it is working, you need to expect problems down the line.
What do I do if my phone gets wet? If your phone has had contact with water, there are some things that you can do. 1. Remove the battery, to avoid electrical damage. 2. If the liquid is something other than pure water. (like saltwater, muddy water, soda pop, liquor or any other “dirty “ liquid. Rinse and clean contaminates from phone with bottled or very clean water. 3. Get the phone to a repair shop (CPR does these repairs every day) as soon as possible, a professional cleaning and dry out is the best possible solution. 4. If a repair shop is not available, shake as much water from the device as possible. Some people suggest you put the phone into a bag of uncooked rice to absorb as much water from the phone as possible. Other people claim that this a waste of good rice. I am not positive that this will help but a bag of rice costs about 99 cents so why not try it?
Water damaged phones can and will often continue to work after they are dried out, if
you are one of the lucky ones. Many times the phone will continue to degrade, especially with use.
What happens when a phone gets wet? The water comes in contact with the solder used on the circuit boards inside the phone, corrosion develops and can cause shorts and at other times cause connection to be lost. Liquid spots are sometimes left on the screen so that the picture has splotches. Other times burn marks can be seen on the circuit board where the electricity traveled in unintended paths due to the water. Most of these issues
can be addressed by cleaning the circuit board with a good electronics cleaning solution.
Liquid damage and my warranty: One thing you can be sure of is that: If a phone has water damage, the warranty is up. It does not matter if the issue with the phone is not related to the water damage. Cell phone manufacturers and providers will immediately say they cannot determine if water damage caused the problem or not, therefore the warranty is void.
How Do I know if my phone has been wet? There is an easy way to check if your phone is water damaged or not. Most cell phones on the market have a little marker located under the back casing where the battery of their phone sits. Simply remove the casing and the battery, and you should see a small white dot or square sticker. Sometimes it is relatively tiny and in other cases, it might be larger than you expect. If the dot is completely white, your phone is not water damaged. If any sort of discoloration, usually the color red appears, then your phone is considered water damaged. Some manufactures use a checkered sticker or perhaps a group of x’s, if this is the case then you are looking for bleeding, mostly red but some are purple. When the indicators have obviously been removed, you should assume that the phone has been wet. Another sign of liquid damage is to look at your charging port, contact with liquid will show up as a white or blueish corrosion an the metal contacts.
What are the some of the causes of liquid damage? Water damage is no laughing matter and some cell phone users do not even realize when they put their phone in water’s way. Protecting your cell phone from water damage should be a top priority for an user. Since many things can cause water damage, your phone is vulnerable to all sorts of infiltration. Sweat, tears and even steam from cooking or having hot water running can cause water damage. Many cell phone users leave their phone in the bathroom while showering or above the stove when cooking, where the steam and condensation can also seep into the phone to cause damage. The cup holder in you car is a convenient place to store your phone but be careful, the cup holder often has liquid at the bottom from condensation. Take care of your phone and keep it safe from water damage.
